Message from NUS Board of Trustees Chairman: Acceptance of Recommendations by Review Committee

Dear Students and Colleagues
The Review Committee on Sexual Misconduct submitted its findings and final recommendations to the University earlier today. A message from Committee Chair, Mdm Kay Kuok, summarising the Committee’s recommendations can be viewed here. The NUS Board of Trustees and I are grateful to Kay and members of the Committee for their swift efforts.
The Board accepts the Committee’s recommendations in full. We feel that the recommendations are informed, balanced and robust. It reflects our community’s common desire for tougher penalties for offenders and greater support for victims, and for fostering an enduring culture of respect and support on campus.
You will hear from NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye in the coming days on the implementation plan for these measures. The Board will conduct a follow up review of the disciplinary and support frameworks two years from now, to ensure that the frameworks remain effective and relevant.
